PostPosted: Apr 03, 2018 22:55    Post subject: What mineral is this?

I have this small specimen of mineral someone gave me, but I am very much an amateur so I can't figure out what it could be. I have no idea where it originated from, but I've tried to streak it and got nothing noticeable (possibly white but definitely no discernible streak). A friend said it could be Augite or Diopside but I'm not sure, as the pictures I've found on the internet don't look much like this mineral.

One of the sides (the right image) has a somewhat reddish bit that looks to me like iron, but I'm unsure if this means anything since I'm really new to minerals.

Any thoughts?

This could be Obsidian ( https://www.mindat.org/min-8519.html ).

I'm with Tobi given these pictures. That fractrue pattern and glassy lustre looks like obsidian to me too
