Tucson 02/12/2010

Some images of my favorites from the Display Cases of the Main Show. I will complete it in next posts, from here or from Barcelona.

This year the topic is 'Gems & Gem Minerals' and as always here, the displays feed your needs over your highest expectations.

More to come...

Tucson 02/12/2010

My flight back to Barcelona was canceled by the bad weather in Atlanta. Due this circumstance probably I will not publish posts for a while.

Too bad, Tucson will kill me! :-)

Barcelona 02/15/2010

Already returned to Barcelona I continue with the posts of my favorites from the Display Cases of the Main Show.

Just four more images today, because my trip back was very complicated and also many things are waiting here in Barcelona to be done.

More to come...

Barcelona 02/17/2010

I wanted to continue with my posts, but as Gail in her fabulous thread she's doing a so complete covering of the whole Show ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=887 ), I prefer wait until she finish, to complete my own thread and end it with the final conclusions.

I should recognize that also is very nice for me to get a short hiatus and take care of the unlimited number of things that a Show as Tucson generate for me, so thank you Gail, you give to me a break given to me the chance to reorganize a little bit my background ;-)

If someone wish to add some comments, the thread "2010 TGMS from the start to the end" is available -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=671

PostPosted: Feb 22, 2010 13:56    Post subject: Tucson Show 2010 - 23

Barcelona 02/22/2010

As promised, as soon as Gail finished her awesome thread ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=887 ) I continue with my last batch of images of my favorites in the Main Show, as well as my final conclusions. Here them are:

Tucson 2010 is done, and not too much major novelties appeared this year. As far as I saw, just the Atacamites from China, the Andradites variety Topazolite from Madagascar, the Phosphophyllites from Machacamarca, Bolivia, and a new locality in Ethiopia with very nice Opals (like the Australian ones) named Tsehay Mewcha, close Wegeltena city, in Delanta district.
Of course many other very interesting finds, like fine twinned Hambergites from Tampo'ny Ilapa, Sahatany Valley, Madagascar, excellent Garnets from Bhothekhola, Shankhuwasava, Nepal, lovely Fluorites from Okaruso Mine, Otjiwarongo District, Namibia, some exceptional new Nifontovites from Rey y Reina Mine in Charcas, Mexico, and many others that collectors and dealers perused around the Show, including a large array of Chinese and Namibian stuff, but again, not a single major find that could be considered THE novelty of the Show.

Probably for this reason (not novelties = more free time to speak ;-) this time I heard a lot of talks during the Show and after the Show about the Show by itself. Talks about the direction of the market currently, talks about the duration of the Show, talks about the different Shows....

We should consider that Tucson Show in fact is not just one Show but several different Shows all grouped by the common name of "Tucson Show": the wholesale Show, the high end specimens Show, the regular collectors show.. and to increase the mess you can find each of these topics in each Show, including the more specialized. Just as an example, a couple of years ago I bought one of my main wholesale purchase ever in the Westward Look, a huge lot of Elbaites that Steve Smale brought as a result of his stay in Brazil for several years. In addition, I saw some really high end specimens in the InnSuites as well as in the Main Show and also I saw some poor specimens in the Westward Look...

What it means? maybe that not rules are available in Tucson, is a wild market plagued for a lot of hunters including several sharks coexisting with golden fishes... A fascinating biotope and an experience, believe me.

Take it as it is or forget it, but I'm afraid that still with fascinating discussions, as in this other great thread: https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=931 , and some clever and profound thoughts about the actual situation of the prices and the games that sometimes be played around them ( John Veevaert, text at the bottom of -> https://mineralshows.com/tucson2010/report6.shtml ) we don't will easily catch the real hearth of the mythos "Tucson Show".

Maybe its deepest hearth is just the eyes of a kid the first time is watching a crystal.

Hi Jordi,

Welcome back home, and it's too bad you had such a tough time getting back to Spain. The weather has sure been causing a lot of trouble this winter, both in Europe and the eastern U.S.!

Thanks for sharing your comments and photos from the show, and of course, Gail's very complete photo report on the show has been great.

Perhaps I should just post my pictures from your Tuesday evening social get-together, right here on your Tucson Show page? I haven't tried to send any yet; let me just post one, right here and now. Thank you very much again, Jordi, for hosting not only that enjoyable little party, but of course, this whole website too.

Pete

I hope this is the proper place to insert this comment. I would like to enthusiastically congratulate John Cesar on his chairmanship of the 2010 Tucson Show. In my view he did a superlative job. Never before in my experience has management been more visible to the showgoers. John was everywhere, and what was particularly refreshing was that he invited suggestions and criticisms about the show, and he was genuinely interested in feedback. I have never seen this before. You should also know that John championed the idea of providing more seats where tired showgoers could recharge their batteries. Very important, but never considered previously.

Way to go John!!!!

Thank you for your kind comments Pete, as well as for your always interesting posts and friendly collaboration with FMF.

I believe that the best place to place the photos of FMF's party in Casa Vicente could be in the thread related with it: "FMF's party in Tucson 2010" -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=9686#9686 in order to have all photos of the event grouped together. Maybe publish all photos there and also few selected here?...
