Description: Musonoi Open Pit The Musonoi mine has been a locality for many world-class uranium, copper, and cobalt bearing minerals (Oosterbosch et al. 1964, Gauthier et al. 1989). The mine is located in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the outskirts of the mining town of Kolwezi in an area known as the Katanga Copperbelt. The ore-bodies of the Musonoi mine, and the nearby Kamoto mine, have been mined since the beginning of the 20th century for copper and cobalt. Initially, the Musonoi mine was mined for Chalcocite and Digenite. GAUTHIER, G., FRANÇOIS, A., DELIENS, M. & PIRET, P. (1989): THE URANIUM DEPOSITS OF THE SHABA REGION, ZAÏRE.
