Locality: Sakoany deposit, Katsepy Commune, Mitsinjo District, Boeny Region, Mahajanga (Majunga) Province, Madagascar
Dimensions: 16 x 16 x 16 cm / main crystal: 9.4 cm
Description: Mass: 3850 g
MIM number:1971
Beautiful divergent sheaf of blue, perfectly formed and pointed transparent crystals, developed around a large, richly faceted main crystal, inside a geode. The shape of these crystals is unusual for this mine, which generally produces crystals with chisel shaped terminations. The celestine crystals of Madagascar, among the most beautiful known, are found in geodes that are old gas bubbles formed by the decomposition of organic matter contained in 65 million years old marls and sandstones.
