As noted on the larger label, it was originally obtained from the mineral dealer Ernst Gottfried von Odeleben (1773-1828), who distributed material from the volcanic provinces in Italy to several famous collectors/mineralogists at that time, including J.W. v. Goethe and F. Mohs
