Bertrandite - Yaogangxian Mine, China - 2 x 2.5 x 7.5 cm
Mineral: Bertrandite
Locality: Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
Dimensions: 2 x 2.5 x 7.5 cm

Description: Mass: 81 g MIM number: 2216 Perfectly formed orthorhombic white and translucent crystal, terminated on both sides (clear hemimorphy with flat base and pointed top), with very shiny faces, some of which are striated. It is topped by a 3.1 cm side crystal. It is unusual to find such a large and well crystallized bertrandite. It is the largest crystal to come out of an aberrant pocket in this mine which is not at all known for this mineral (the other bertrandite crystals that have been found there are much smaller and have been cut).
