Description: Smithsonite La Calamine, Moresnet, Kelmis, Liège Province, Belgium 22 x 12 cm aprox. One of the best known specimens of smithsonite (if not the best) from "La Calamine". The mine was abandoned and flooded in 1884, so all the pieces in the collections are from the nineteenth century. This one was in the collection of Henri Buttgenbach, Professor of Mineralogy, Crystallography and Petrology of the University of Liege in the first quarter of the twentieth century.
