Genthelvite - Shigar Valley, Pakistan - 5,0 x 3,0 x 4,5 cm
Mineral: Genthelvite
Locality: Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan (Northern Areas), Pakistan
Dimensions: 5,0 x 3,0 x 4,5 cm

Description: Main crystal size: 4,8 cm Twin composed of two lustrous, brownish-red, flattened crystals, well crystallized on the front but rougher on the back. One of the two crystals is garnished with several brilliant spessartites, the largest measuring 12 mm. Analysis of the crystal shows a proportion Zn > Fe Mn, which technically makes it genthelvite rather than helvite. MIM number 1269 Photographer: AINU / Augustin de Valence
