Elbaite on Quartz - Paprok, Afghanistan - 105.0 x 76.0 x 70.0 mm
Mineral: Elbaite on Quartz
Locality: Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan
Dimensions: 105.0 x 76.0 x 70.0 mm

Description: A beautiful, well-terminated, bicolored, mostly light-green Elbaite, measuring 65 x 7 mm, with high luster, is partly intergrown with a sharp, clear Quartz point measuring 42 x 35 x 34 mm, all on blades of lustrous, white Albite (v. Cleavlandite). The large Elbaite has a pale-pink core and an intense, neon-green cap. It shows parallel stress fractures and minor chipping, but is unrepaired. Several other partly incomplete Elbaite crystals and a smaller Quartz point provide balance. The Quartz crystals display are sharp and clear with preferentially-frosted faces. This is a fine example from Paprok, from the Dan Velasco collection.
