Irradiated Synthetic Quartz
Mineral: Irradiated Synthetic Quartz
Description: R&D XTALS LLC, Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio, United States 12.5 x 7.5 x 2.5 cm This specimen took about a year and a half to neatly crystallize. This specimen shows good crystal growth, but was then irradiated to turn it a smoky color. Finally, the quartz has three small complicated "poof balls". Interestingly, the smoky color is not completely black, like you see similar specimens from Arkansas.
