Mineral: Uraninite
Locality: Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan
Dimensions: 3,5 x 3,0 x 5,5 cm
Description: Main crystal size: 2,7 cm
Very lustrous black crystal in a rhombic dodecahedron with octahedral truncations bearing striated faces. The excellent condition and luster can probably be explained by the youth of the Himalayan pegmatite in which the crystal was found: the phenomena of disintegration did not have time to alter it.
