Mineral: Cuprite
Locality: Poteryaevskoe Mine, Rubtsovsky District, Altai Krai, Russia
Dimensions: 6,0 x 5,5 x 5,0 cm
Description: Main crystal size: 5,7 cm
Lustrous, intact, complex polysynthetic octahedron with trace amounts of micro-crystallized silver. The metallic color becoming red on the surface under strong lighting is probably due to the fact that the cuprite crystallized with a greater proportion of tenorite than that of cuprites from Africa.
