I agree. It looks more like malachite after azurite to me (but, admittedly, I don't remember seeing well developed dioptase with well developed azurite crystals). | |

On Mindat, this is listed as not an approved mineral species. It seems to crop up periodically. I have a specimen and have labeled it "alkali beryl". Is this acceptable? | |

The photo is a bit unclear, but it looks to me like iron-oxide staining on quartz. Staurolite usually occurs as well formed crystals (porphyroblasts) rather than irregular masses. | |
