I think sometimes a white background is best and sometimes a light coloured background is to be preferred, it all depends on the specimen and which aspects of the specimen you wish to 'reveal'.

I think it's an Emerald, but of very low quality (and very badly cut...)

Peter, the label should read Göscheneralm (Göscheneralp) . I can't be more specific about the locality as Adularia is a common mineral in the Alpine clefts of the region.
