Looks like an epimorph or perimorph of something. Find a broken crystal and see if you can work out the form of the mineral the epimorph covered

Not really.

It may help to know where it was found, but I think I can say with certainty that it isn't a sand rose of any sort, ancient or otherwis ...

I found it in a rock pile at work. It’s pretty heavy I’d say nearly 90% is all geode. However as you can see it’s been roughed up scraping against rocks. My question is how do I polish it or get rid ...

In macro the Silurian greywackes are about as interesting as cement! But in pano they are magnificent. From Eyemouth to Siccar point the geology is stunning.

Could it not be a variety of chalcedony

Glass slag often has inclusions of different colours or even comprises a mix of colours.

This is without any shade of doubt a piece of slag glass.
