Great idea Jordi. Since all collecting is local (or locale) it's through the efforts of the protagonist's to spread the knowledge (like you guys and girls do) and you really can't have enough of that. I only wish I could unscrew the top of my head and pour it in. But in leu of that, there is FMF!

Thank you for picking California as the first state on your tour. I have only be rock hounding for about 8 years but continue to be amazed by the wealth of minerals and gems in our state. My favorites are the lithium pegmatites in San Diego County - so thank you Jesse for the eye candy from the Himalaya Mine. Although I have a few favorite pieces I have self-collected, I don't think I would ever be brave enough to post a rough picture that would pale compared to those normally posted.

Please Ellen, go ahead and publish it. As you can see in the link I published related with the Spanish side ( https://www.foro-minerales.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=33 ) the idea is not a collection of "Ikons" but an overview of each state represented by every kind of collector, specimen or photography.

More posts published = better vision of each state's mineralogy!

Here's a beautiful tiny cinnabar, with an unusual tabular habit, from New Idria, San Benito County.

Hello everybody.

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Marcelo Olsina, from Argentina. I'll be helping as co-moderator on this section.

I think this is a great initiative. Sharing your photos on this thread will give us a big picture of the mineralogy of California.

Here it comes mine: these photos are both sides of a Colemanite, apparently a floater.

Coming from the 'Spanish side' I must say that it is an appealing initiative. I love minerals from USA so I am going to enjoy the show. I know it is a daring to post here some of my humble pieces, however, as Jordi states, the most important think to consider is not the high level but the global perspective.

Let's have a good time focused on the mineralogical treasures of USA.

Cheers

Jesse, the Stibiotantalite is awesome. Excellent pics and specimens.

At certain degree It is a nonsense to publish my poor shots after yours, but I wish to encourage medium collectors -like me- to do so. Sorry for the quality.

Regards.

That's it! Is great to have so good images, but the threads finally could be repetitives without all kind of collectors showing too their "hidden treasures" even humble.

Since all I collect anymore are US minerals I made up a website for my collection years ago. It can be found at www (dot) tigerminerals (dot) com. One of these days I we redo the pictures of the older ones. You will find minerals from all 50 states here. Along with some pretty nice ww thumbnails. Jordi sorry if my link is out of line.

Jordi, being an American I am disgusted;) by your lack of our states geography;)(please note sarcastic good humored remark..hehehe) You state
"So, the start is California, because it is the state that is furthest west. "
Actually Alaska is the farthest west(would like to see some pics of those fine epidotes..monster mtn. or something is it?) then Hawaii. Even in the continental US Washington state is farther west than California. If we want to get technical..LOL..we will have to do Alaska 3 times since it's the farthest west, north, and even eastern most state..LOL;) I will let it slide this time since you are in Spain and not from here but next time....;);););) :):):)

I don't have any measurments on these 4 specimens as they are a few of the many I sold this last year. Didn't keep records of them. The largest was the bottom one..it was a cabinet size one full of hundreds of crystals..thats an SW shot in there. The ben(1) and ben close up(old camera) is slighty smaller than the top specimen.(was my fist ben specimen ever even.)

Great photos - and generally a great idea to make a virtual mineralogical "journey" through the USA, a country whose minerals i really like. Can't wait to see how this project develops when we continue with the different states.

Correct Jason, I forgot to write "farthest southwest". I already corrected it on my message. Thanks for the warning!
