Congratulations!! Someday I will make back to the museum to see the new digs. As Alfredo described some time ago, it is definitely off the beaten path and on the way to nowhere else but well worth the trip. But, only in the summer.
Also, would you contact me at Les.Presmyk@srpnet.com because I have some questions about the building itself. As you may have heard, the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum has been closed, not for lack of interest on the part of its supporters and the 20,000 school children who visited it every year, but because it is being reconfigured into the Celebrate Arizona or some such museum. There is a group actively pursuing a new facility and would like some information about building and display costs.

Terry and Marie Huizing visited the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last week. It was a delight to visit with them on Thursday for a short time. Marie, of course, is the beloved Editor-in-Chief of Rocks and Minerals magazine. Terry is a well-known collector, photographer and author who specializes in calcite.

The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum Society hosted its 15th annual fundraiser event for the benefit of the museum. These have been held each fall since 1997- the first being "The Graphite Ball". This year was "The Ruby Gala".
Next year the museum will be fully reopened, and will also be celebrating its 110th year. Stay tuned for announcements of events.

One of the highlights of each year's fundraiser gala since almost the beginning is the awarding of the Dr. Charles A. Salotti Earth Science Education Award. Readers of this thread may recall that our beloved forum co-moderator John White was the 12th winner in 2010. I'm pleased to announce that the 13th winner for 2011 is Tony Nikischer. Tony is well-known for his business Excalibur Minerals, and as publisher of Mineral News. Particularly noteworthy for this award was Tony's founding of the Hudson Institute of Mineralogy and for his extensive outreach and education work. Tony was unable to attend the Ruby Gala due to prior commitments, but we're hoping Tony will be able to visit the museum in 2012 to give a lecture and to receive his well-deserved award.
