BTW, as on the Spanish Forum we have several people publishing great photos of micros, we are working on a new tool, which all photos of micros from the Spanish forum will be automatically placed in a kind of virtual gallery here on the English Forum and where to see these great photos.

It will be ready soon , we will inform when it happens.

PostPosted: Sep 17, 2008 05:24    Post subject: Re: picture of micro

thanks,

(sorry for my english...)

i have really begin last year for micro, and i can make picture until 2 mm width. If cristal are well definized (?) i can take it until 0.5 mm with a good quality. Micro is very exciting, but not very easy to make great picture. Some french collector send me specimen for picture.

Now i collect them myself too (i have find some pink fluorite this summer, and next year i think find à good cavity with these beautiful jewel, very red, all on my site) before i don't see these size of mineral !

On my website sizes of picture are reduced but all my picture have à great size and on my site i make some photograph in a medium size (gallery fonds d'écran) 1600 - 1200

I am ever interested by exchange and if you are near geneve, write me !

Best regards

Fred

PostPosted: Sep 17, 2008 13:06    Post subject: Re: picture of micro

For explain it's hard for me in english but i give example on my site..... i have pen a forum (in french) to help people wo want progress with my material.

but on my new forum i give a link in english or i have find explanation. In fact we have the same technics (but i have lean alone, it's simple beacause photo => optic => physic and my initial formation is physic).

This english site is "mineralogical record" and all technics are related.

My system is very basic :

- canon s2s is (new = canon s5is = 320 euros)
- close-up raynox (i have all the collection ! => dcr 150, 250 msn 202 and msn 505)

Hoya +1, +2 and +4 (less good than DCR 150) size 55 mm (like adaptator) for important specimen.
DCR 150 and DCR 250 good for specimen 5 cm -=> 1 cm = 39 euros each
MSN 202 good for specimen 1 cm => 2 mm = 59 euros
MSN 505 good for specimen 0.5 cm => 05/1 mm = 99 euros

- a PC not to old
- CZM (combine z) for combine picture , free
- a micrometric system, most of people have a vertical system, mine is horizontal mine for 100 euros

You can begin without micrometrci system.

Total for 500/600 euros you can done picture like book... But for technics i can't explain in english sorry ! When i speak in french, most of people don't understand....

Find on mineralogical record and for CZM you must learn yourself.

for scale iit's simple, i use a meter (with mm) and for small i can compare with a pen (criterium ?) 0.5 mm.

It's not very precise but it's enough for me.

I usually don't comment on photos shown on this Forum but these from Ploum are simply spectacular, the best photomicrographs that I have ever seen! What is especially fine about these photos of Fred's is that everything in the shot is in focus, not just the central crystal or group of crystals. The detail is amazing. Early in my collecting I was a micromounter, so I can really appreciate what we are seeing in these photos.

Really good photos!!! I am enjoying with your photos and your website.

If you are interested in contact mineral collectors to exchange minerals, you are kindly invited to send your exchanging mineral posts to the forum MINERAL EXCHANGE AREA:

https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewforum.php?f=20

I think that all of us we will very pleased to offer a good exchange for your alpine minerals... or others.

Could you send photos of your photo working's place?

PostPosted: Sep 19, 2008 08:30    Post subject: Re: picture of micro

Thanks a lot !

Here you can see my work place (my wife take the most of the place for his glass, importaed form USA.... She makes beautiful things) for micro and the result.... Sure it's not very easy because cristal size is 1 mm. I can take until 0.5 mm if cristal is well done.

Like you can see, my work place is not very attractive.... But it's efficient.

Logiciel CZM is good but it's better to simplify his work and i use some technics.... for this result. I

Combination of 20 pictures with my technics.

Fred - I echo the comments of everyone else that your photos are outstanding. For someone like me with no experience in micromounts and microphotos, they are like magical visions of another world. I find myself trying to visualize what your specimens must look like without magnification, compared to what you capture in these images. I look forward to visiting your website soon. Well done!

- Tracy
