Dear Sirs,

(1) Is the Folch collection shown now (December 2011)?
(2) Is the displayed mineral collection otherwise extensive?

We'll visit Barcelona soon and I'd like to plan ahead.

Thanks,

Zoltan

Sorry, the Folch Collection is not shown publicly. You can get more details in the article published in Rock & Minerals:
The Joaquín Folch Girona Mineral Collection, Barcelona, Spain

I recomend also this other two topics:
The Folch Collection
My visit to the Folch Collection

Thanks, though I am sorry to hear that. In fact, it was the article in the magazine which made me interested. I presume there is no way to have a private viewing, is there?

How about the actual displayed collection? Is it very extensive?

Thanks for your time.

Correct, only previous appointments (with months in advance) for groups or institutions

I believe all these details are in the article, and anyway the family don't like so much to make public the details. Thank you for the understanding.

Sorry if a part of my question was not clear. I wanted to have some information on how extensive the museum's mineral exhibit (viewable for any ticketholder) is.

Again, many thanks for your time.

Hi!

If what you want is to get an idea about how large the room is just go to the topic My visit to the Folch Collection and look for the photos which names are Folch collection Hall.jpg and Hall_general_view.jpg.

I think ebayster is referring to Blau Museum of Barcelona, not to the Folch collection. Fortunately we have here Carles Curto, curator of the mineralogical section of the Museum, who can answer the question as soon as he reads it.

Regards

The news came in yesterday that the government of Catalonia has reached an agreement with the Folch family under which the government will buy a portion of the collection and the family will donate a portion.

As a result one day, but who knows how long it will take, you may be able to see the collection.

If what you want is to get an idea about the collection just go to the topic

Just extremely curious.....
I am Catalan, born in Barcelona and now living near Barcelona. I have seen the Folch Collection three times... and as far as I know, and has been posted here, it *was sold* some years ago...
Mr. Folch had a collection of minerals, His son, had a collection of cultural art (by the way, extremely exquisite in my taste!), and the son of his son (who is the one alive now, if I am not wrong), had/has a collection of cars (extremely wonderful, I have heard...)

Which collection is bought/donated?
With best wishes

Lluís

I believe that the Folch mineral collection has not been sold. And I might add that Folch's daughter had a collection of antique musical instruments. A family of collectors!
