Who can explain better the necessity of spelling English correctly than one who is not a first language speaker?
English is an easy language to start with, but it is tricky to get a good command of it. Jordi, our tireless leader, has worked very hard for a long time with his team to be able to add a spellchecker to FMF.

As you may know, phpBB is an open software resource but every change you try to set up can cause many troubles. So a great amount of tests have been necessary before the new feature is fully working.

You can see it on the right top corner of the message box, when posting a new text. If you press the button “Spell check”, the system will mark the wrong words, offering a list with several options so you can choose the correct one. It is still possible that a few words can remain incorrect, those that can be used in other contexts. However, we have been trying the Spanish one for several weeks and it is very useful and easy.

I will not have to check any more on the net these odd English words –for a Spanish speaker - like “successful” (sucessful? Succesful? Successfull? …

The other novelty you may have noticed, on the left, below the index and login is google +1. In the age of the social networks, why not recommend FMF publicly? In that case, please follow the link provided.

Best regards

Very cool novelty - thanks to our "tireless leader" :-)

Yeah, and "Collection of Tobias Martin" as sample screenshot for this thread, what an honor ... or was it honour with "ou"? Hm, a spell checker would be great ;-)

English English or American English? Color or colour? Honor or honour? Aluminum or Aluminium? Program or programme? Liter or litre? I can see by the little red squiggles that you've chosen the American variety. Be careful. This is a sensitive subject and someone is likely to be offended no matter what you do. It's a PC minefield out there.

Hola Antonio,

Very good idea. Like you I'll stop having to double check if my spelling is correct especially with English words having the same spelling as in French but with a "a" instead of a "e" (for example / exemple).

Thanks Jordi & all for this useful tool.

Christophe

"pc minefield"!!!

You crack me up Jesse!!!

Missed you at the show, but that's because we weren't able to partake of Vincent's paella. Here's hoping we'll be able to get together next year, and I hope you guys have a muy successful year digging fluorites.

As always,

Ed (in shafter at present)

Let's not be too provincial here - last week I saw in a used-book shop, a nice large desk-top dictionary of Canadian English. Eh, Tom

I'm grateful to the person who did this. You see, I'm from the Netherlands and in the final year from the school of higher general secondary education, which can cause a little problem: I'm good in English, as long as it is verbal!

Thank you

Mark

(Only 2 mistakes in the original version :])

Hi to everybody (or evrybody without "e"?)!
OK an automatic speller is necessary, especially for a non-English-mother-tongue like myself. Nevertheless we all had better to go further with our "international" English, by which we all understand everybody all over the world!
Greetings from Italy (in my "Italian" English!!!) Hahahahaha!!!) by Riccardo.
