For the first one, I lets you guess with the size of my hitch.
For the second 4*5 cm.

And thanks Roger for this precision.
But in the other hand this pieces came from an old collecion of a french geologist that worked in Congo in the 70"s. SO I can really tell you it's it is a mistakes of location in the etiket or not...

Is this French geologist GG?
The carrollite was not an abundant mineral in DRC. Buttgenbach analyzed it from a small sample from Luishia (Katanga) (1925).
In the late 80s beautiful crystallized samples (but <1 cm) of carrollite with bornite xls were found in Kamoto-Pit. Morphology is more complex (and also beautiful) than in Kasundwa mine (Kamoya).
At Kambove, crystals of carrollite can reach 2 cm.
Latest discoveries of carrollite from Kasundwa mine have less rich forms (octahedron, cuboctahedron, cube), but they may exceed 5 cm edge and they’re spectacular.
Carrollite with linnaeite is rather a component of the primary ores of cobalt. Well crystallized it seems rare.
I think no carrollite specimen was found in Mashamba.

Hi Nico78 -

As Jordi says, but also, when you say "the size of my hitch" do you mean your thumb? It is barely visible in the photo and can be a variety of sizes. A rough estimate is possible based on the box on which the carrolite is mounted (relative to your fingers), but actual numbers would be much better.

Yes in fact, the specimens came from Gilbert Gauthier collection.
And really sorry for my lack of accurancy.
However I can't give you more precisions for the moment!
I am working in New Zealand and my collection still in Paris.
I have just some pictures here to give me some good memories and to participate a little to this forum.

Hello,
Gilbert Gauthier was in fact a Belgian geologist. He was born in Ciney (Condroz).
In the years 70-80, mineral localities were often poorly defined in Katanga. Indeed, these katangan specimens reached in Belgium from a young country (Zaire) without labels. Indications of new discoveries were vague, many origins beeing invented. Many mines evolved much and were taking great importance.
With the return to the country of great amateurs (e.g. Dr J. Lhoest (UMHK) and J.M. Pendeville who lived longer in Congo after independence), the errors were corrected. As elsewhere, the appearance of the matrix is very important.
