Hi all,

Did you notice that your RSS feeds stopped working?
Both the RSS feeds of the Spanish and English forum, stopped working 9 and 10 days ago.

Cheers, Frank

Not right Frank (at least to me and the administrators) I'm receiving them properly and I would say that other FMFers also receive it properly.

Maybe your antispam? some other FMFers noticed a similar trouble?

Thanks for the warning

There is no anti-spam in RSS (not in the former Google Reader and not in Feedly)

What are the links now to the RSS-feeds?
then I can check and potentially re-add them to my RSS reader

Cheers, Frank

We don't use a RSS system to announce new messages Frank, it is a customized mailing system.

Please check:

"FMF Forum" and/or "no-reply(at)fabreminerals(dot)com"

Cheers

Well, you were using it for many years until 10 days ago ;)

(edit) see https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=353
I really really hope you can fix it, because without RSS life stops ;)

Not Franck sorry, it always was the same, a customized mailing list. Probably you always had the feeling that it was a RSS system, but is not.

Antispam systems improves and changes continuously, few days ago one of our administrators, Antonio Alcaide (using Yahoo), stopped receiving the announces of new messages, and he just checked his antispam tray and all messages are there, so maybe it could happens the same to you...

BTW you canceled by accident the reception of the messages? can you see a message telling you if you want to receive again the announces of new messages below both magnifier glasses? If this is the case please check the point 0 of the "A general guide for using the Forum with some rules and tips " :

0-) When you first join you will get messages telling you about every new message on the forum. These will say:

To un-subscribe: If you no longer wish to be advised when a new message is posted on the forum please click the following link

So, by using that link (either use it now or when you want to stop) you will stop receiving more announcements of new messages. You always have the ability to be advised of all new messages again using the link: Send me an e-mail when a new message is posted that you will now see below the icon. If you do click on that link you will be automatically reconnected for messages and you will see this message:
You have successfully subscribed to "message alerts". You can un-subscribe at any time by following the instructions given in every alert e-mail message you receive.

Maybe better continue this discussion privately?

You are writing about "email notification" Jordi.

I am writing about "RSS".
Those are two completely different things.

Both the Fabre UK and ES forums, had RSS activated since 2008
see https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=353
and 10 days ago it suddenly stopped

The RSS feed URL were
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/XML_new_posts.php?items=25
and
https://www.foro-minerales.com/forum/XML_new_posts.php?items=25

It seems the XML stream that was feeding your RSS feed on your server, is now incorrectly configured. Perhaps you could ask one of your technical people to fix it?

Cheers! Frank

Hello Jordi & Frank

RSS feed works just fine on my side with your URL Frank as seen below. If you still experience problems make a try with another web-browser. Maybe the feed is not completely RSS compliant preventing your web-browser to read it, or the flaw lays on the browser side (don't think it has something to do with antispam Jordi).

Tested with FF 23 under Linux/Ubuntu 13.04

Cheers

Christophe

Hi Frank,

Could you check it now? We have done a minor change to improve RSS 2.0 compatibility.

Now it passes the w3 check at:

https://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.foro-minerales.com%2Fforum%2FXML_new_posts.php%3Fitems%3D25

even when we have to improve some other minor issues, it should work fine now.

If you test the URLs with Firefox, you'll see the contents of the RSS with its builtin RSS viewer without any problem now.

Cheers,

Joan

See screendump: 11 days ago RSS stopped, and 16 hours ago it started again! Whoowoo!
Thanks Joan for your time and understanding, you saved my life ;)
Cheers, Frank
Ps, I use RSS in the Feedly App, not in a browser, but I checked, and it works fine in Chrome too. Feedly runs as an App within the Chrome browser.

PostPosted: Sep 26, 2013 10:06    Post subject: Re: RSS feeds

Hi there,

Thanks to Frank we realized that we have RSS feeds in FMF forum :-) In fact we published the RSS script many years ago to allow other friend sites to show our forum posts, but the RSS link itself remained hidden.

Now we have done some improvements and the RSS feeds are fully RSS 2.0 compatible. You'll find the icon in the top left side of the page, with the link to the RSS feeds on it. Feel free to read the feeds with your favourite RSS reader.

For those who are not familiar with RSS, remember that with an RSS reader you're able to read news from many different places (newspapers, blogs, forums) in one only place (the RSS reader), so it helps you to stay informed without needing to jump from page to page to see all the news from the different sources.

For more information, you can read the wikipedia article: News Aggregator

Cheers.
