PostPosted: Mar 13, 2014 14:14    Post subject: A new generation of mineral collages

Hi folks,

some months ago i presented some mineral collages dedicated to certain mineral species and/or localities. Though most of you appreciated them and complimented me on them, i thought they could be better. So i finally started creating a new generation that has many improvements: They have a frame, they are in English (i don't use the German Mineralienatlas anymore, so why not making them more understandable for all of you out there), the sizes of the specimens are provided and there are some close-ups ... and we also finally have a new FMF server for larger resolution ;-) But just take a look, the first one is dedicated to WULFENITE:

Very nice Tobi. And the color-coordinated frames really give them a finished look.

This is really a great idea! In many books about minerals, one picture is given to represent a given mineral, and as we all know, one example is hardly representative.

I'm glad you like that stuff, guys!

The next ones will be SMOKY QUARTZ, GALENA and MINERALS FROM GERMANY; all collages i did before - but the "2.0 version" will look better and contain more information ...

Just an additional info: Turbo, you mentioned the representativeness of the collages. Please keep in mind that I only use my own minerals specimens, so some of the most representative samples are missing because I just don't have them in my collection, e.g. a wulfenite from Los Lamentos or pyromorphites from Bunker Hill or Bad Ems. I hope you can enjoy this work nevertheless ;-)

Love the collages, a really great way to display a number of specimens on a single page. By the way, my compliments on your collection, you have a keen eye for the aesthetic. Very impressive.

Here's one i simply had to do (though it was hard to chose between all the specimens): The wonderful, the colourful, the one and only FLUORITE:

Beautiful collage, Tobi. What are the overall dimensions of your new collages?

Don

Hi Don,

they are about 1300-1500 pixel wide and about 800-1000 high. When you click them, they will open in a new window and you will see magnifier symbols to the left. You can resize the picture with these symbols and they show you when the size is displayed in 1,0 original size.
