Hi, Am.

Nice specimens and photos. In the amethyst specimens from Tehuilotepec , the correct locality is Tehuilotepec, México State, not Tehuilotepec Municipio de Taxco, Guerrero State.

Not to belabor the point, but please explain Jorge. According to several Mexican websites that I checked, Tehuilotepec is located in the municipality of Taxco de Alarcon in the Mexican State of Guerrero. Mindat also has Tehuilotepec located there.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi

My intention is to contribute to a more accurate knowledge of the Mexican mineralogy.

Pleased to explain:

In Mexico and elsewhere the world as well, there are many places with the same name. An example is Tehuilotepec in the state of Guerrero and Tehuilotepec in the State of Mexico as well.

I've worked with this amethyst locality in the State of Mexico. It is considered new, and it is. However there is an area of 40 km radius with amethyst outcrops in the state of Mexico and amethyst specimens have been collected from the mid-twentieth century. Tehuilotepec is a point in this area.

Dennis Beals, from Colorado, and I have spent a lot of money and have been in danger to find this site, now very dangerous. As with any new locality, many false rumors say for example that these amethysts from Tehuilotepec, Mexico were from Oaxaca, Morelos, or Guerrero.

Independent business aspect, reality by mineralogic knowledge and ethics of collecting, we feel obliged to tell the truth of this locality, and to further advise those interested in visiting to take precautions and travel straight to the right place: the State of Mexico.

Thank you very much for the clarification Jorge. It's good to know the correct locality for these amethyst groups, and hopefully anyone who has plans to visit will heed your caution.

Mike,

That is a gorgeous Topaz from Katlang. Deep rich color.
