Thank you for your comment, Mike. I am fortunate to have them. I hope you are having a good summer rockhounding and bashing rocks.

Best wishes,

Don

Hello Don!

I'm a self-employed person and the summer time is very hard for me - a lot of work. So I hope, I have some more time for FMF & Co. in the near future.

Best wishes
Martin

Don,

I enjoyed looking at the Elmwood Mine specimens: Fluorite [IMG_3265.jpg], Calcite [IMG_3231.jpg] and the Baryte [IMG_3231.jpg]. All very nice specimens from one of my favorite localities.

Although this was many pages back, I also liked the “Pegmatite Smorgasbord” (Fluorite, Beryl, Quartz, Muscovite, Albite and Schorl) 1-IMG_1293.jpg, pg. 14), and the Amazonite, Smoky Quartz specimen from Crystal Peak, Teller County, Colorado (P1050593.jpg, pg. 5)

I am currently following your request and taking some pictures of my own specimens to create my own thread soon.

Within the state of Michigan, copper is found almost exclusively in the western portion of the Upper Peninsula, in an area known as the Copper Country. The Copper Country is highly unusual among copper-mining districts, because copper is predominantly found in the form of pure copper metal (native copper) rather than the copper oxides or copper sulfides that form the copper ore at almost every other copper-mining district. The copper deposits occur in rocks of Precambrian age, in a thick sequence of northwest-dipping sandstones, conglomerates, ash beds, and flood basalts associated with the Keweenawan Rift. Work continued until 1857 and resumed again in 1863. All work ceased in 1865 and was absorbed by the Central Mining Company shortly after. 313,000 lbs. of refined copper was recovered from the mine. Copper, silver, analcime, and prehnite can be found on the poor-rock piles. Ref. mindat.org
