There is such a railway: the Siam-Burma Railway (from Tenasserim into Thailand). It is not fictional and neither are some of the stories of its building. Two movies, the famous "Bridge on the River Kwai" and more recently, "The Railway Man", borrow from this part of history. The latter is based on true events but the former is fictionalized and with the exception of the premise that British soldiers were forced to work on the railway, bears little resemblance to actual facts according to many (read the Wikipedia entry on historical parallels for the movie "Bridge on the River Kwai").

However, all irrelevant to this trip, which is concentrating on areas to the north.

Certainly looks like a fine trip, bridge or not! I had just had mental pictures of geologists in forced mine labor being filmed as a leadership study posing as a war film! I was wonder who would play Colonel Jordi?
