Lovely photos Ploum, really nice!. Just to help visitors to learn more about your photos, could you add more details, as for example the whole specimen size and locality where the specimen was mined. On this case, is evident that the locality is Benitoite Gem Mine, in San Benito County, California, but some people could ignore it and with future photos, even don't recognize the locality.

Thanks again to share with us your excellent job.

Jordi

Thank you very much Fred for your answer.

I think that the merit of the excellent photos is not for the camera. You extract the best of your camera and of the minerals in yours photos, and you have a wonderful page.

A hug and until soon. Juan.

Ploum I am really amazed looking at the pictures that you have produced, they are marvelous, congratulations.
I noticed that you are using a Panasonic FZ28, which is a fixed lense camera, so I am curious about the set up that you are using for getting to this small field of view so neatly. Do you use a specific macro or close-up lenses (Raynox?), would you share this information with us?.

Best regards.

Jose Luis.

PostPosted: Apr 03, 2009 02:18    Post subject: Re: New pictures of Micros

Hello Jose Luis,
in english it's difficult but i try here...

I use a combination of several lense (raynox or other but quality is important = raynox and canon for me).

I have discover taht some combination are better than other.

For each specimen size a combination of lense is used. Typical :

- between 0.3 mm to 1 mm
- between 1 mm to 2 mm
- between 2 mm to 5 mm
- between 5 mm to 10 mm
- between 10 mm to 20 mm
- between 20 mm to 50 mm
- between 50 mm to 200 mm
and no lense for bigger.

And i use an optical system to take several picture (important precision is important) and i use a compilation program (combine Z). I explain a lot of thing in french on my website.

all steep are important :
- good specimen
- good light
- good camera
- good combination of lense
- good system for camera for take several picture
- good program for compilation
- good program for treatement of picture.

Each picture can take 1/2 hour ( 15/20 mn for computer)

Best regards

Fred
