Thanks Tobi, I agree, but some specimens I just don't get right, no matter how much I try.

Thanks Tobi, I agree, but some specimens I just don't get right, no matter how much I try.

I know this struggle too good ... but you can improve this certain specimen: Try to place it upright in front of a black or grey or white background instead of just layin' it down. And then try to find a good light source, maybe indirect sunlight from above. And then take your camera and try to get the whole specimen focused. Finally, you can digitally revise the photos if they are too bright or too dark or if the contrast is too high or too low ... the result should be a picture that does this beautiful mineral specimen justice :)

Good luck from one who often fought against the alliance of minerals and cameras and who often lost the fight, but never gave up ;-)

It's difficult for me to tell outright, but I think your smithsonite might actually be a willemite. Either way its a very pretty specimen.
