Hello Pierre
Thanks for your words (or rather the lack of them!).
When I first saw these 2 specimens, I was speechless. I just could not imagine that such forms could exist.
But 7 years and many more trips later, I am yet to see a similar specimen.

Thanks Pierre!
They are indeed special but I am not sure I deserve the compliments.
I am just very happy to expose those oddities to the view of all the mineral lovers of this forum.

Thank you Philippe.
Although rare, this association is seen in both belts, Eastern and Western.

The locality of Peñas Blancas is not only known for its clear quartz often associated with emeralds but also for its phantom fluorite.
These phantoms are due to the presence of chromium which maybe explains why the Peñas Blancas fluorites are never associated with emeralds.

Buenavista mine produces among the finest beryl crystals in the Chivor area.
Prisms are often dihexagonal.
Some of the matrix is a brown, brecciated mixture of calcite with layers of iron oxide, covering the black shale.

Hi Gerard. This emerald crystal has rather unusual facets. How often do you find such as these? IMG_7236nb.JPG

Hi Pierre,
Dihexagonal prisms are pretty uncommon in all districts.
I have only seen a handful of those in 20 years.
There is a similar prism (also from Buenavista) posted on page 10 (towards the end).
Another example - from Muzo this time - is visible on page 17 (first post).
That's about all the dihexagonal prisms I have in my collection :-(

PostPosted: Nov 24, 2016 10:28    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Chivor (#409)

This specimen is from one of the most significant finds of the last decade in the Chivor district.
Unfortunately these photos do not do justice to the exceptional quality of the beryl crystals.
It's a true miracle that some specimens from this find (I have seen a dozen or so) have escaped from their natural fate.

Host rock is black shale.

Definitely Pierre!
By the time I started working seriously on the inventory my backlog was already (very) bad.
