Paris surprise!!
Amazing found specimen!!!.

Thank you for your valuable humor.

Very free, clean and air crystal.

I just have a little question for you. Cat´s eye effect is the different quality along the crystal?? Gem quality only in its upper part?

Regards.

Hello Firmo,

Thanks for your appreciation - these special specimens do not come up very often.

As per your question,
In the attached image I tried to grasp the very subtle tubes which run parallel to the C-axis, but to no success. They can be noticed in the cleanest part of the crystal (last 5mm), under proper lighting and orientation .
These tubes might indicate cat's eyes and the only way to confirm this observation is to cut the crystal along the C-axis (Which I am not yet prepared to do).

Gérard,

I have an Aquamarine that has tubes similar to your Emerald.

Regards,

Don

Thanks for the input Don!

Talking about beryls, my understanding is that cat's eye is not so uncommon with aquamarines and emeralds.
Trapiche emeralds often exhibit cat's eye but the phenomenon is very rarely observed on rough specimens.
Once the presence of tubes is confirmed by the stone cutter, the crystal has to be cut and faceted in an optimal way to coax out the cat's eye effect.

Regards

Gérard

Thanks very much for your complete reasons Gérard. I understood.

Ok please, as you say, don´t use invasive therapies for such a demonstration.

Also you have already answered to the following question. This effect determine the work of the crystals cutter.

And fine pictures.

PostPosted: May 02, 2017 16:59    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Cunas (#26)

The Cunas mine and more generally the La Pita district is well known for the vivid grass green color of the beryl crystals produced in that area.
This specimen is a good example of this color but unfortunately grass green is difficult to render properly with digital cameras (Specially when combined with below average photographic skills).

Small floater aggregate from Muzo.
Presence of carbonaceous inclusions in the lower part of the aggregate.

A milestone has been reached today with the 300th emerald specimen posted in this thread.
The journey to the land of the green beryl is not over. Stay tuned :-)

Hi Pierre,
You are spot on :-)
Difficult to describe the joy of finding such specimens and the surprise of rediscovering them years after.
With over 10-15 years' hindsight, some of my specimens look certainly very different.
