PostPosted: Apr 23, 2018 17:11    Post subject: Biotite?? Not sure what this

Hey all, beginner to this, any help would be greatly appreciated. Found a leaf of gold/silvery/Black lustrous mineral on quartz. I have been researching pretty heavily and have done a few very basic tests. The mineral is not magnetic, based on a very small flake I had removed with skewer and is on the exterior what I think is a piece of quartz/granite. The rock was found in a stream wash in Central TX. The shine does not appear to fade too much in shade. Any ideas??

Thank you!

The picture is too fuzzy to help with identification. Nevertheless, you describe the material as flaky and if it is black it would be safe to assume that it is biotite. If you want more certainty from us, please post a better picture. Thanks.

Yes, I think all will agree that this is biotite.
