Yes, definitely!
Would look even better with a real black background when shooting your photos.
I know, that requires extra work but it’s worth it.

Of course, much better. And a great color contrast. And a nice horizon line (as defined by Steve Smale).

New specimen - fluorite from Namibia:

Sadly, there's no chance to make a good photo :-( I tried and tried and tried, but no matter what light, what background or what camera angle, the extremely lustrous fluorites just look crappy on every picture. Actually it is a very appealing and undamaged specimen of vivid green fluorite in association with grey quartz, but I can't make a photo that does that nice specimen justice :-(

Even if it doesn't do your specimen justice, this is a pretty good photo Tobi...
You can maybe try a "softer" background than the immaculate white which makes the contrast too harsh in my opinion.
