PostPosted: Nov 02, 2018 13:43    Post subject: Golden rutile analysis?

Is anyone aware of analyses performed on the golden rutiles that grow epitaxially on hematite? I am wondering what causes the yellow-golden color observed at localities like Novo Horizonte, or the microscopic specimens found in the Binn Valley of Switzerland. I have read that the red color often found in rutile is due to a small percentage of iron, but never about the yellow-golden color. I have attached an example- a photo taken by Mischa Crumbach in the collection of S. Cuchet.
