PostPosted: Nov 25, 2018 05:52    Post subject: Tsumeb?

Dear all,

As a collector, there are Always specimen in your collection of which there's some doubt about the locality or even type of mineral. The subject specimen of this post is already quiet some time in my collection, and I purchased it as:

Mimetite and Dolomite, Tsumeb Namibia.
The specimen is 10 cm long and 6 cm wide.

But: somehow I Always had the impression that this specimen origins from Mexico.
I have no doubt that it is Mimetite and Dolomite. The locality is subject of my doubt.

Has anybody seen similar specimen from either one locality?

Thanks and best regards,

Mathias

Hi Mathias, although I have not seen a Mimetite/Dolomite specimen similar to yours from Tsumeb, I definetely would not exclude Tsumeb. Mimetite from this locality took on many different forms and combinations with many different minerals. Just my thoughts.
Regards.
Heimo

I would say Santa Eulalia, Mexico, and it seems to be with Calcite not with Dolomite.

I agree with Jordi. I have a mimetite with calcite that is identical with your specimen and it is from the San Antonio Mine, Santa Eulalia.

Looks very much like my specimen from Mexico.
