PostPosted: Feb 06, 2019 20:19    Post subject: Teal veins and vugs (Malachite/Chrysocolla?) on smoky Quartz

hello all,

first off, i apologize for posting about a polished specimen - i just don't know of other resources to turn to. this was the first piece in my collection. it was given to me by a dealer at a local rock show as a gift after i had picked it out of his stock to purchase and he told me that it was a personal piece that had been missing all weekend. i have never seen anything like it before! i can't find anything on mindat or google images that matches what i think it is (malachite/chrysocolla partially covering smoky quartz). any insight is appreciated!

i don't have this piece on me right now so i can't get additional pictures. i hope these two are enough!

This piece looks like a man-made glass to me. In a couple of places, there are what appear to be clusters of bubbles. Is it harder than a knife blade? (There are some simple tests that should help you to identify the physical properties--this goes a long way toward coming up with an ID.)

yes i performed a hardness test on its bottom with a glass shard and a steel nail file - it was unable to be scratched by the former. i also found a picture of a malachite specimen with similar air pockets that might be similar to what appears on this piece.
