Hi everybody, My name is Jakub and I'm a young collector from Poland!
I'm quite new here and it is my first post. I would like to tell you some words about the classic Polish locality - Machów Mine, Tarnobrzeg, Subcarpathia, Poland.
As you probably know, Machów mine was one of the biggest sulphur producer in the world. It was opened in 1970 and closed in 1991. Now the only thing left after this sulphur heaven is massive lake. Land reclamation started in 1992. At first the deposits were covered by 15-30 meters thick layer of clays, and after that it was filled by water. In 1984 it produced 2.342 million tons of ore - that's a lot! Okay! Enough about the history!
For collectors around the world the most important thing there was minerals of course. In this classic locality the best stuff which you could find there was sulphates like Barite, Celestine and also Gypsum (less interesting); calcite and of course sulphur! Sulphur occurred there in two main forms - as powder but also as nice lustrous crystals.
At the moment it's impossible to find anything there, but lot's of minerals from Machów you can find in mineral shows around the world! I collect Polish minerals only and this is my favourite locality! At the moment most of my collection from Machów is in a small exhibition in Adam Mickiewicz University Earth Museum. There you have some of my specimens from this locality! Maybe some of you have some?! :)
All the best,
Jakub

That spray.JPG Celestine is really nice and my favorite of those shown. Unusual habits on almost all minerals you showed.

Also a warm welcome from your neighbouring country in the west, Jakub!
Very nice specimens, I hope we'll see a lot more :-)
