Just moved to Austin, TX from Minnesota. I'm hoping to connect with serious specimen collectors in the area, and local mineral clubs for those with this interest. Thanks. Deb Roman

Hi Deb! I'm not sure about Austin specifically, but we are based up in Dallas, so if you ever want to make the drive up to visit us, we'd love to show you around the gallery. We have a healthy collecting community here, too... the Perot Museum is worth visiting as well!

Hi Deb

Welcome to Texas!!!

I live about 2 hours southeast of Austin in Montgomery, but visit Austin often.

Look up Blake Barnett of Barnett Fine Minerals. He is located in Leander which is just North of Austin about 30 minutes or so.

Hi Deb,
I am a collector and dealer based just north of Austin in Leander. I focus my personal collection mostly on Texas minerals and regularly go field collecting in the area. You’re welcome to tag along sometime. Other collectors in the area that have nice collections are Stretch Young, Paul Bordovsky, Brian and Jan Greenstone (Greenstone Fine Mineralia), Jeremy Smith, Josie Middleton, Creighton Beery, I’m sure I’m missing a few. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to get plugged in to local collecting community. It’s small but growing! Oh and thanks for thinking of me Dan!

Hello Deb,

We have the "Fondation Tissières" dedicated to the Alp minerals not far away from Austin (13h10 by plane... just kidding). I hope you will find a lot of mineral aficionados in Austin and Texas... Do you have some photos of you specimens on the Internet ? Have a nice day.

Dany from... Switzerland.

Hi Deb,
Jim and I live in Rockwall, in Texas, near Dallas. You have an active community in Austin, and glad Blake answered your inquiry. Stretch and Lynn Young also live in Austin and are active as a couple. They are members of our Mineralogical Association of Dallas group as they lived here at one time.
If you find the time, join the Arlington gem and mineral club, they are in the DFW area, but you will at least get the newsletters and see about joining in on digs all over Texas and New Mexico and even Arkansas.

Thanks for the good info Blake. I'll plan to get up to your store before too long, and would enjoy showing you and the others my collection. The mineral room is almost completely organized. My email is decke003(at)umn(dot)edu
