Hi all
I am a newbie here as well as collecting minerals. Over the years I have seen some amazing crystal clusters etc. but could not afford them. Recently a friend who was an avid collector gave me some of his collection.
Amongst the lot was this piece which a dealer at a fair said was Obsidian. But is it, or is it just glass. I would really like to hear the expert opinions.
Thanks

Hi Norman,
quite sure this is man-made glass slag.
Regards

Fairly certain this is glass. "pink obsidian" appears to be a marketing name applied to many genuinely and dyed pink specimens of mostly manmade substances. Nothing about what I see says "natural" to me but it screams "glass".

In addition to the comments already posted, obsidian is a product of volcanic eruptions. Are there any volcanos in Graubünden? I don't think so.

Thank you all for looking.
As to Valcanos in Graubunden....the answer is No....but we do travel extensively 3 times a year and this friend , retired for 10 years, did just that and brought back some crazy stuff.
We do have a large community spread across the land who go mountain climbing, lots of them...mountains, and they have pulled out some whoppers.
Have a super weekend
