Hello.

I continue to post specimens from Italian Alps.
I like isolated crystals, even better if floating. Nevertheless the 90% of my minerals are on matrix.

I hope you like them.
Best regards.
Sante

Hello, Administrators.

I can no longer log in automatically. I have to write the boring password every time. Even if I click on the appropriate box nothing changes. Same thing with "End warning messages".
Could, please, a Site Admin help me by doing it for me? Thanks in advance. Regards.

Not having new photos ready to publish, I take this opportunity to attach some old photos of Brosso specimens.

Best regards.
Sante

Hello

I want to share some curious quartzes from the Italian Alps.
I'd like comments, suggestions and -why not?- corrections.
I hope you like them.

Best regards.
Sante

 Mineral: Quartz (smokey)
 Locality:
Formazza Valley, Ossola Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont (Piemonte), Italy
 Dimensions: 35 x 12,5 x 3 mm
 Description:
Double terminated Quartz with Tessin habit is quite scarce. Even more if the crystal is very tabular, as in this case. The right termination, which seems damaged, is actually crudely crystallized (possible attachment point).

Mineral: Quartz (variety faden), Chlorite Group
 Locality:
Triolet Glacier, Ferret Valley, Les Grandes Jorasses Massif, Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy
 Dimensions: 61 x 37 mm
 Description:
This specimen, in addition to the faden, shows other two features: a disturbed/interrupted growth on the back side and several small extra faces.

 Locality:
Triolet Glacier, Ferret Valley, Les Grandes Jorasses Massif, Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy

Mineral: Quartz (variety faden), Chlorite Group
 Locality:
Triolet Glacier, Ferret Valley, Les Grandes Jorasses Massif, Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy
 Dimensions: 61 x 37 mm
 Description:
Parallel extra X faces. Although usual on gwindel, they are scarce on faden.

Mineral: Quartz (variety faden), Chlorite Group
 Locality:
Triolet Glacier, Ferret Valley, Les Grandes Jorasses Massif, Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy
 Dimensions: 61 x 37 mm

Even rarer extra S faces.

 Mineral: Quartz
 Locality:
Miage Glacier, Veny Valley, Monte Bianco Massif (Mont Blanc Massif), Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy
 Dimensions: 46 x 12 x 4,5 mm
 Description:
I see in this floater and tabular crystal a scepter and a reverse scepter. Is it possible?

IMG_20191204_121033.jpg
 Mineral: Quartz, Chlorite Group
 Locality:
Brenva Glacier, Veny Valley, Monte Bianco Massif (Mont Blanc Massif), Courmayeur, Aosta Province, Aosta Valley, Italy
 Dimensions: 51 x 27 mm
 Description:
Tessin habit. In this front view: a phantom due to a second generation of hyaline Quartz which covered a previous crystal (in turn covered by Chlorite).

 Mineral: Quartz, Chlorite Group
 Locality:
Brenva Glacier, Veny Valley, Monte Bianco Massif (Mont Blanc Massif), Courmayeur, Aosta Province, Aosta Valley, Italy
 Dimensions: 51 x 27 mm
 Description:
Back view. What seemed to be a first generation crystal has actually grown on a previous milky crystal (in turn covered by Chlorite). So the final crystal is a Quartz of third generation (not counting the Chlorite depositions).

 Mineral: Quartz
 Locality:
Miage Glacier, Veny Valley, Monte Bianco Massif (Mont Blanc Massif), Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy
 Dimensions: 41,6 x 35,5 x 3,4 mm
 Description:
A very tabular crystal nearly complete. I suspect a rehealed shard, though no evidence.

 Mineral: Quartz
 Locality:
Miage Glacier, Veny Valley, Monte Bianco Massif (Mont Blanc Massif), Courmayeur, Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta), Italy
 Dimensions: 41,6 x 35,5 x 3,4 mm
 Description:
Another view with another light. As you can see, it is completely crystallized except on a lower right portion, which could be a possible attachment point. If so, the hypothesis of a rehealed shard becomes hard to accept.

Monte Cervandone, Devero Alp, Baceno, Ossola Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont (Piemonte), Italy
 Dimensions: 35 x 14 mm
 Description:
Back view: just two "faces" of a prism!? I rejected the idea of an interrupted growth or a dissolution.

 Locality:
Monte Cervandone, Devero Alp, Baceno, Ossola Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont (Piemonte), Italy
 Dimensions: 35 x 14 mm
 Description:
I suspected two tabular crystals randomly grown up like that. Their thickness goes from 0,3 to 3,25 mm.

Monte Cervandone, Devero Alp, Baceno, Ossola Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont (Piemonte), Italy
 Dimensions: 35 x 14 mm

"Randomly"..? But they share the only common edge between two possible M faces. Any suggestions?
