A stunning and highly beautiful contrast of black, white and vivid green, I like it :-)

Thanks for your nice comment Tobi.
This is a good example of the typical bluish-green hue found in some of the Chivor crystals.
This color is rarely seen in the crystals from the Western Belt (Muzo, Coscuez, La Pita, Peñas Blancas).
This also explains why the Chivor faceted stones are less sought-after than the Muzo/Coscuez/La Pita ones which have generally a much higher green saturation.
Useless to say that these are just general trends and there are many exceptions to this 'color rule' in both belts.

Thank you Jose Luis - I am assuming "bullies" is the English translation for "muy bueno".
These crystals are indeed small but muy bueno - they are so bright!

PostPosted: Nov 18, 2019 16:51    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Peñas Blancas (#746)

A rare Fluorite-Emerald association, only found in the Western Emerald Belt.

Fluorites and emeralds occur in distinct formations in Peñas Blancas but there are a few exceptions to this rule.
The fluorite cube has cleaved corners and shows internal color zoning caused by the presence of trace-elements such as yttrium.

The other Western Belt locality where Fluorite can be found in association with Emerald is Muzo.

Got this specimen from my friend Bergur who visited the mine not long ago.

Thanks for posting this link Philippe!
I had the privilege to see the exhibition and I must say that the organizer has accomplished an extraordinary tour de force in assembling so many iconic specimens from all over the world.
The exhibition also features lesser-known but equally fascinating specimens - the 3 prisms from Jos Plateau, Nigeria are breathtaking pieces! Can't recall the number of times I walked by the case #14 [13:40 in the video] at the risk of drawing the security guard's attention.
The one reservation I might have is that Colombian emeralds are not just about size and intrinsic beauty, which is the main focus of this exhibition, but it’s also about the wide diversity of the associated minerals.

PostPosted: Dec 19, 2019 14:05    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Chivor with pink Fluorapatite (#752)

Colombian emerald matrix specimens are also known for their variety of mineral associations (not even mentioning the long list of solid mineral inclusions found in the Colombian emeralds).
Quartz, dolomite, calcite, pyrite, albite, aragonite, goethite are commonly found in association with emeralds.
Less commonly associated are parisite, fluorite, and muscovite (only in the Western Belt).
As for rutile and pink fluorapatite, they are rarely found in association with emeralds.

Never seen barite, sphalerite, allophane, euclase, siderite or vivianite in association with emeralds although these 6 minerals are relatively common in the Western Belt (also in the Eastern Belt for euclase).

Bergur, please shout if you have any comments or objections - I am sure you have plenty to add ;-)
