I picked this specimen up a number of years ago, and it was labeled "Cornwall". I'm not an expert on the region, but was always suspicious. After becoming more familiar with some specimens from Rottlebrode I am thinking that this is the correct location, particularly because of the small octahedral faces on the corner of the cubes, and the siderite association. What do the experts think?

Hi Jesse, hi Jordi,

I'm ashamed to say that Jordi really could be wrong, but in this case I think he really is. I'm not the greatest Harz expert but I hope I have some knowledge of German fluorites. To me, this looks like it could definitely be from Rottleberode. Pale green and translucent, "missing" cube edges due to the rather cuboctahedral form, some patterns on the crystal faces, brown matrix, we should not exclude Rottleberode, most likely Flußschacht Mine ...

I will not say it IS from Rottleberode, but I think it could be possible, the specimen is not that untypical. Maybe a photo of the matrix could help ...

Regards
Tobi

Hello Tobi,

The matrix is almost completely a golden brown siderite. A small crystal of it can be seen at top of the photo. It is very much like one that I have from Stolberg, except that the Stolberg fluorite is colorless: https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/download.php?id=45591

Cheers, Jesse
