Hello.

Some specimens from Boccheggiano mines. This locality, exploited for pyrite together with Niccioleta and Gavorrano, is among the most important of the " Tuscan Metalliferous Hills". Pyrite from this locality is very scarce on the Tuscan collecting market.

Best regards.
Sante

Lovely specimen, very aesthetic. Reminds of Huanzala but is so much rarer, a wonderful classic!

Thank you, Tobi, for your kind comment. Greetings from Tuscany.

I wish to share some black quartzes from Tuscany. All are autigenous.
The most known locality is Monteriggioni, in Siena province. Here the crystals show the "Cumberland habit".
In other localities the habit is prismatic.
The black color is always due to hydrocarbon inclusions.

Best regards.
Sante

Hi, Volkmar. How are you?

Thank you for your friendly words.
As a lover of alpine minerals, I am looking with a lot of interest and pleasure at your recently posted specimens. Cheers.

I self-collected this aragonite 45 years ago.

Best regards.
Sante

Hello.

Tuscany also had several native copper mines.
The two most important were Montecatini Val di Cecina and Conventino, but good samples also came out of smaller localities.
Here a short parade.

Best regards.

Hello.

A quick visit to the minerals of Carrara marble, before temporarily leaving the mainland Tuscany to move on to insular one.

The marlbe from the Apuan Alps (Carrara, Massa, Lucca provinces) provided dozens of species with millimeter or sub-millimeter crystals, with the exception of quartz and a few other minerals which appeared in centimeter size.
Here are a few.

Best regards.

Hello.

I spent five months on the minerals from Tuscany: too many, even for the most patient of the users.
However, before moving on to another Italian region, I want to show some minerals from the two major islands of the Tuscan archipelago: Elba and Giglio.

The island of Giglio is sadly known for the tragedy of the Costa Concordia ship, the 13th of January of 2012.
Mindat lists 58 mineral species in this locality, which was already exploited for iron by the Etruscans and Romans.

Here are some examples of the island's mineralogy.

Best regards.
Sante
