Never knew that kyanite got this good!!
I remind everyone to look at the sizes of these specimens - they are quite large - and choice!

I think the size of the specimen reflects the purpose. In a Museum setting, high quality mineral specimens in the miniature, small-cabinet and large cabinet size are rarely displayed unless they are truly rare or unique. For example, gem minerals like diamonds or Gold crystals like the one from Joe’s Gully. I have had the opportunity to review many Museum collections and those mineral specimens in storage have great eye appeal but are just too small to be viable display pieces. Well, this is what the Curators told me!
Of course even common minerals in Museum size specimens (20+ cm) are not cheap, and here I speak from experience.

The Peruvian fluorite has dodecahedral faces - the longer ones coming off the cube faces- and trapezohedral faces- the shorter ones coming off the cube faces between the dodecahedral faces. The octahedral positions are below the treapezohedral faces and not smooth faces.
What a lovely example of fluorite faces and so pretty too!

Even in smaller size this would be a killer specimen, but nearly 40 cm and that perfect - simply incredible!

Very true Tobi.
Some years back when I was very new to minerals a Vendor told me as far as mineral collecting is concerned aesthetics is everything – buy the best looking minerals you can afford. Of course what he did not tell me is that aesthetics comes at a price – one that I cannot always afford, but thrift has helped me out a lot.
