Grayish crystal, altered by the radioactivity of thorium, showing nevertheless some faces typical of the quadratic symmetry of thorite, isomorphous to zircon. This crystal is considered very large for the species. Because thorite is highly radioactive, specimens such as this one are often metamict: This is a condition found in radioactive minerals that results from the destructive effects of its own radiation on its crystal lattice. The effect can destroy a crystal lattice completely while leaving the outward appearance unchanged.

Group of crystals in subparallel formation resembling a cathedral. The crystals are translucent, of beautiful blue-green color and are well terminated, which is uncommon for this species: The sample was found in kaolin (of which traces remain at the base) and not trapped in solid rock as were most of the specimens removed from this find, which do not have any terminations.

Large white diamond-shaped crystal on a thin matrix that seems to be a floater (small crystals of orthoclase are present on the other side of the matrix). The crystal has smooth, shiny faces and is not covered with chlorite, which is relatively rare in this deposit. A smaller Manebach twinned crystal sits next to the large crystal.

Block made of microcline crystals twinned after the Carlsbad law (up to 6 cm) and schorl (up to 7 cm) covered with well separated cubic and transparent fluorite crystals of an astonishing emerald green color creating a beautiful contrast with the microcline. The cubes of fluorites have beveled faces; some are traversed by fine schorl crystals. The microcline and schorl were formed first and then leached by the hydrothermal fluids which left them in this altered condition and subsequently deposited the fluorites.

The arsentsumebite results from an epimorphous growth on mimetite that was dissolved at a later stage. This is one of the best known samples of this rare mineral, which is both arsenate and sulphate.

Doubly terminated white scalenohedral calcites to 5 mm are locally perched on the aguilarite. Unlike many Guanajuato aguilarites, this specimen is not coated by chalcopyrite. The miner who collected this specimen was fired for “high-grading” two weeks after he removed it.

Group of very bright and well-formed galena crystals with black sphalerite crystals at the base. Usually the galena crystals adopt classical forms of the cubic crystal system. The crystals of this sample have flattened shapes with a hexagonal outline: These are called Gonderbach twins, and result from two adjacent crystals sharing the same face of an octahedron, but rotated 180° with respect to each other. It is rare to have in a sample as many well-formed, shiny and intact such twins.

Cyclic twinned very well formed and sharp crystals, developed on a mica-schist matrix. Some crystals are translucent and clearly show the "alexandrite" effect: red under halogen light and green under sunlight or cold LED.

Beautiful group of very well formed and separated halite crystals with cubic and tabular shapes with square section. They are white / gray to colorless, and intermingled with fishtail twinned gypsum crystals of amber color (due to oriented inclusions of iron oxydes) measuring to 14 cm. The group is very fluorescent under short UV rays taking an orange color, and the gypsum crystals are also somewhat phosphorescent.

White marble cavity from the famous Carrara quarry in the Apennines, containing exceptionally pure doubly terminated quartz crystals. Apennines are a mountain range extending along the Italian peninsula from north to south for about 1200 km, through fifteen of the twenty Italian regions. Their genesis began about 20 million years ago and is still slowly ongoing. During this genesis, almost pure carbonate sediments which precipitated from an older shallow hot sea were deeply compressed and recrystallized in a first stage to form calcareous rock of what would become much latter the famous Carrara white marble which has been exploited since Roman times. In a second stage, higher pressures and temperatures reaching 400 °C, deformed and reorganized the crystalline structure of this rock, forming a metamorphic rock with a different structure, namely marble, which “design” and aspect have made so famous. It was during this second phase that, along thin white and crystalline bands, cracks and cavities opened in the marble, hydrothermal solutions seeped in and deposited crystallized quartz and other mineralogical species inside. While cavities and crystals are unforgivable defects in the cutting of marble blocks, they are also precious geological testimonies of the amazing laws of nature. The discovery in 1998 of an exceptional cavity containing this sample has been filmed during its opening with a diamond chainsaw along the front wall of the cave. In order not to damage the crystals, the recovery required several days of careful work, which made it possible to isolate this beautiful sample. The sawing marks are clearly visible on the external faces of this sample.

Black acicular goethite crystals closely packed in a shiny 7.1 cm diameter ball on a carpet of quartz crystals, some of which include fine goethite needles. The terminations of most of the crystals constituting the ball are platy while on the periphery of the ball they are in needles. The original deposit of this piece is worked for its numerous quartz geodes sold massively in Tizi-n-Tichka and elsewhere in the world. These are usually modest samples where the crystals of quartz are associated with fine goethite needles. Very sporadically balls of goethite crystals are found on quartz carpet: their extraction is not easy, and many balls are damaged. This sample represents the very high end of what has been produced by this mine.
