No update here for nearly 3 years, but my new rhodochrosite (well, new in the collection, but mined between the 1880s and early 1920s) is a real Hessian classic and needs to be mentioned here:

Bockenrod, Reichelsheim, Odenwald, Hesse/Hessen, Germany
 Dimensions: Specimen height 9 cm
 Description:
Thin layers of rhodochrosite on brown matrix, typical specimen specimen from Bockenrod in southern Hesse. Mined ~ 100-130 ago.
