Mineral: | Bismuth with Dolomite and Erythrite |
Locality: | Gang Opal, level 371, Niederschlema, Bad Schlema (Schlema), Schlema-Hartenstein District, Erzgebirgskreis, Saxony/Sachsen, Germany
|
Dimensions: | 9 x 11 x 8 cm / main crystal: 2.2 cm. |
Description: |
Mass: 1250 g MIM number:2151 Group of very sharp and separated gray bismuth crystals, with small scattered white dolomite rhombohedra offering a beautiful contrast. Some faces of the bismuth crystals have a hopper formation. The base is coated with micro-crystallized erythrite of purple-red color, which is characteristic of this mine. This sample was found as is and was not acid-etched to free it from its gangue as shown by the perfect state of the dolomites. Photographer: Malte Sickinger Ex collection: Georg Gebhard (Germany) |

Mineral: | Leiteite and Legrandite |
Locality: | Tsumeb Mine, level 44 (zinc pocket), Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
|
Dimensions: | 5 x 4.5 x 4.5 cm / main crystal: 4.2 cm. |
Description: |
Mass: 137 g MIM number:2152 Translucent leiteite composed of stacked quadratic crystals of nacreous appearance on a black granular matrix. Orange legrandite crystals (the largest measuring 0.7 cm) have grown on some sides of the leiteite, adding to the contrast of the sample. Legrandite (an arsenate) is rare in Tsumeb, and it is even rarer to see it associated with leiteite (an arsenite), as both species result from two different oxidation states of arsenic. Locality: | Fiescher Glacier area, Fiesch, Goms, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland

Dimensions: | 9.5 x 10 x 17 cm / main crystal: 11.2 cm. |
Description: |
Mass: 942 g MIM number:2154 Very well formed gwindel showing a good angle of torsion. Mineral: | Fluorite on Quartz (variety prase) with Löllingite and Calcite |
Locality: | Hexigten Banner (Kčshíkčténg Qí), Chifeng (Ulanhad), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
|
Dimensions: | 40 x 34 x 19 cm / main crystal: 19.8 cm. |
Description: |
Mass: 14150 g MIM number:2155 Nicknamed "The Giza Plateau" for its striking resemblance with the famous pyramids of Egypt. Huge perfectly formed transparent octahedron of burgundy-red color, with smooth faces, on a plate made of prase quartz crystals (the color of which is due to green asbestos inclusions), with four small octahedra nested on its faces. Ten other small pink fluorite octahedra developed on nearby quartz points. This unusual configuration (large octahedron and second generation of smaller octahedra) is the signature of this exceptional discovery in Inner Mongolia. Löllingite covers certain quartz points, and lamellas of white calcite have developed at the back of the large octahedron. Group of large parallel stalactites (the largest measuring 44 cm) of a beautiful, very shiny green, on an earth-colored matrix (it is probable that this set was detached from the ceiling of the vein and therefore pointed downwards). The stalactites give a “wet” impression under lighting due to the microcrystals which form their surface. It is rare to find such a large and aesthetic group in this condition. Dimensions: | 60 x 35 x 27 cm / main crystal: 36.0 cm. |

Mass: 35000 g
MIM number:2197
Large, cream-gray beryllonite wheel developed on a matrix made of 7 large, well-formed white pollucite crystals (the largest measuring 18 cm). It is very unusual to find these two rare minerals in association, let alone in such a large and well-formed sample. The whole is reminiscent of a reclining lion whose body and legs are pollucite and the mane beryllonite, hence the nickname "The Lion of Kashmir" given to this piece.

Crystals are elongated along one or more of the cubic axes with repeated growth along their lengths, which results in this 3-dimensional arborescent form with "branches" at right angles to the "stem".
