Hello Tobi, From what I can see on Mindat, it looks like "St. Michaelis Mine" is actually a number of different shafts and adits?

In German it has the the name "Fundgrube" instead of "Grube" which means that is once was a whole mining claim and not a single mine.

Thank you for the translation. I saw that word, but it is often hard to find English translations of German compound nouns. I look up the parts and get "Find Mine." This makes sense! I now have a new word as well as a new specimen.

In reviewing Am Mizunaka's posting from January 16 2014 (before my time), I believe the "unidentified reddish mineral" is almost certainly sphalerite. Bob am mizunaka wrote: | Fluorite, galena, quartz, and unidentified reddish mineral. |

| I looked in the posting from January 16 2014 and I agree with Bob, the reddish crystals are most likely sphalerite, I added this information to the original post.
Thanks Bob!

Really Exceptional Crocoite!!! This is really one of the best classic Callenberg crocoites I've ever seen!

Something you won't see often (and I must confess, I have never seen it before) - a precious opal from Germany! I've heard that some were found, but never saw one until our fellow collector and FMF member Andreas Gerstenberg sent me this yesterday. He is not that active here anymore but he allowed me to share it:
Mineral: | Opal (variety hydrophane) |
Locality: | Gröppendorf, Wermsdorf, Nordsachsen District, Saxony/Sachsen, Germany | |

Dimensions: | Specimen size 2,3 cm |

Another German fluorite. The first one I ever acquired around 20 years ago. At the time it was labeled "Weardale", maybe because of the Weardale-like twins, but I knew it was not. Barite and fluorite almost never occur together there. After asking some German collectors and seeing many specimens in other collections I decided that Beifilfe was probably the correct location. If anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

A very nice specimen, Jesse!

But "quite sure" is not enough so I asked Andreas Gerstenberg who has competent knowledge of minerals from Saxony. And he replied that this piece is definitely from Grube Beihilfe. You won't get a more reliable information because Andreas is not only very knowledgeable about such things. He also would never say "definitely" is there was any doubt.
Regards and again congratulations on a nice Beihilfe specimen :-)
