That malachite is a great specimen, Michael!
Malachite from Grube Friedrich is an absolute classic from Siegerland, and many collectors consider them the best malachites from Germany.
And though I don't collect malachite, I think you are lucky that you have found such a good specimen of this classic material.

Congratulations :-)

Best regards
Tobi

Tobi,
Thank you for the added insight on Grube Friedrich. I have to admit that I wasn't at all familiar with the locality. I tried to find more information about the location online, but there wasn't much other than what Mindat said - a Fe-Cu-Ni-mine opened 1803 and closed in 1953.

In the end I thought that this piece was pretty attractive and would make a good addition to our suite of minerals from Germany, so I'm happy to have found it.

All the best,
Michael

Hi Michael,

a very nice pyromorphite from Pribram / CZ. We see quite many good pyros from different localities on the market, classics and newer finds. At every show and in every shop you'll see pyro specimens from China, Germany and France. But these pieces from Pribram are really rare and many collectors might not even know that they are wonderful classics that were known to the mineral world even before many of the other famous pyromorphite localities in the world were discovered.
I'm a collector who really likes pyromorphite but I don't remember that I saw many pieces like yours. Some museums have them but I guess not many collectors have the luck of getting such a beautiful classic from this very very old mining area.

A fabulous piece, Michael, I love it!

Thanks Tobi,
Next to galena, pyromorphite is probably my second favorite mineral. I was really happy to find this one last month in Tucson.

Congratulations again on this beautiful treasure!

So your second favorite mineral is your favorite secondary mineral ;-)
Besides that poor joke: We have much in common concerning our taste in minerals. My most favourite ones are without a doubt quartz and fluorite, but galena and pyromorphite (+ tourmaline + rhodochrosite) are right behind ;-)
