PostPosted: Mar 12, 2008 17:28    Post subject: Pyrite and its hidden Energy?

In this strange World one could find all kind of people. In the last years, when you watch TV, you could see all sorts of strange little “humans”: witches that, through amulets, manage your finances or neighbour problems, people trying to sell you your future using play cards... Minerals have also taken their place of honour in this world, including fairs as respectable as Munich or Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines.
Fortunately, the Mineral Show at the School of Mines of Madrid has not yet suffered these new "religions". But in the last Escuela de Minas Fair, I took the picture attached below.
I was talking with my friend Paulí Figueras (a Catalan mineral dealer) when unexpectedly we saw a visitor getting out from his coat pocket a strange device. It was a multitester! A high technology VOM! A multimeter or a multitester, is an electronic measuring instrument that measure voltage, current intensity and resistance.
As bold as brass, the strange little man connected the device and using the two electrodes started to take measurements on a beautiful Pyrite crystal from Navajún (La Rioja, Spain). At the lack of results our visitor applied the electrodes on another Pyrite cube. Paulí and I were very surprised. We asked him what he was doing. The man replied that he was looking for some Pyrite crystals which are full of energy in order to apply them in esoteric rituals.
It is true that both Galena and Pyrite has been used as electronic detectors from Edison times, but I think there is a great gap between Edison experiments and this esoteric energy this man was trying to test. Yes I said yes I will Yes…Of Course.

I can't agree more with you Joan, but the fact is, in Lisbon for example, i din't find one shop with mineral to collect, but instead i find 32 esoteric shops with minerals that a can't find in Portugal, several types of quartz and other kind of minerals, most of them came from Brazil! In fact the most export of minerals from Brazil is not for the collector's of minerals but for esoteric purposes!!! In the "esoteric world" is most common to use several different minerals, for several different purposes, like chakras, different feelings, for luck, to protect for the bad energies, etc (I go very often to these shops, I already know the meanings from almost all the minerals, LOL)! I'm glad to have esoteric shops in Portugal because if not, I would not have place where to buy minerals!!! :-)

P.S. : But is the first time that i see a person testing the minerals with a multimeter, the persons who believe in the esoteric, generally seize the minerals in the hand and if they feels good vibration, it is because they are destined to them!!!

I used a multitester once to check the electrical conductivity of all the macroscopic minerals in my collection, with interesting results. Many sulphides (pyrite too) were conducting, but sulphosalts never conduct - good way to differentiate a massive grey metallic mineral with no cleavage, at least one can tell whether it's a sulphide or sulphosalt. A very interesting magnetite crystal was conductive across opposing faces, but not across adjacent faces (certainly a "mystical" property for me!). Cassiterite was another one with quite peculiarly variable conductive properties. As far as I can determine, some cassiterites and some diamonds are the only natural mineras which will transmit electric current. (Please tell us if anyone knows any more.)

Not the Quartz?

You are right Jordi, the quartz are highly piezoelectric, becoming polarized with a negative charge on one end and a positive charge on the other when subjected to pressure. They will vibrate if an alternating electric current is applied to them. This proves them to be highly important in commerce for making pressure gauges, oscillators, resonators and watches.
Quartz crystals have piezoelectric properties, that is they develop an electric potential upon the application of mechanical stress.
