Here is another Georgia spot. I discovered this location one day when my Dad and I were out cruising around looking for rocks. In the county I live in we have over 900,000 people so there is not to many open places or places to even look for rocks. It's about 2 miles from my house. Construction site clearing which they have never built on. Hmmm..since I found it does that mean i get to name it?? Let's call it the "Jason Quartz Depot" mine.
The bottom 2 crystals are pretty darn big. The second one from the bottom has a clear tip on it. I have found boxes upon boxes of crystals in every shape and size. Some are gemmy but not many. I told a few of my freinds about it and they have had some decent luck as well. I even had the neighborhood kids from the part thats built on come over and help me collect crystals. Darn kids..so low to the ground they put me to shame when spotting crystals.

Here is what the site looks like. You can see the quartz dikes coming out of the hill in the first 2 pics and then the third pic is just a look over the collecting area. Dug those dikes pretty well but to no avail. When they graded they must have pulled out plates and plates of them.

An August, 2011 (very hot!) visit to Graves Mt. answered a question for Jay and me (I think!). Between 2004 and 2011, several trips to the locality had produced some interesting pseudomorphs in the main pit and the northeast pit which had different morphology (depending on the pit) and were determined to be hematite @ pyrite for the northeast pit and @ ? in the main pit by George Robinson. Pete Richards saw some of the unknown pseudos and didn't have enough crystal form indicators to determine what the main pit pseudomorphed material was. We have not seen reports of these (without doing a major search). In both cases, the pseudos are covered with pyrophyllite which masks the form (which Jay discovered when examining external shape and cross sections - most are hollow, the inside surface being usually hematite (sometimes botryoidal), sometimes with free-standing kyanite crystals. In the main pit, Jay found one with what appears to be a somewhat flattened pyritohedron, maybe indicating that the original material was also pyrite, as in the other pit, but with different form. I'll post several of the crystals and would like opinions. Thanks!

This is my favorite specimen from our Georgia mineral collections, and one of top 5 favorites overall. This Turgite has a rainbow of exceptionally bright colors & excellent form. It is from the Skittles Pocket, which was a more recent find that 2 of my good friends made at Graves Mtn about 2 years ago.
